New Year's Eve 2015, and time to get started on 2016's adventure.
Last year - it'll be last year in a few hours- we made our first visit to Morocco and spent 3 weeks there. It should've been longer but we didn't appreciate how much there'd be to see and do, and how much we'd enjoy it. We kept a Ship's Log of our travels on Horizons Unlimited and the site's organiser, Grant, did all the work setting it up for us. We decided to put our own blog together this time but it's been a bit more effort than I anticipated. I'm only able to have the time to fiddle with this because my daughter - a recently graduated "First" in Media "stuff" - is on hand to help out. She's not done a bad job...
We plan to return to Morocco in mid-March for just over 4 weeks, and the preparations are well underway. The ferry was booked months ago, the maintenance programme for the truck goes on - it's a Landrover, so it never really stops - and we've unearthed the phrase books and maps again. This time we plan to make a bit more effort to speak Dhariya as opposed to French, at least south of the Atlas mountains, where French didn't seem to be as widely spoken as we'd thought it would be. The kitchen cupboard doors are decorated with our selected Moroccan Arabic words and phrases so we can get it into our heads and, with a bit of effort, we should have an easier time in the souks. The tent is at last repaired and a new set of wheels and tyres ready to fit. Over the next 2 months we'll gradually build the truck back up to "expedition" fit, adding all the kit that we found useful last year plus a few bits we really wished we'd had.
